Description:

The Texas Tech-affiliated Lubbock Lake Landmark is a natural history and archaeological preserve on the northern edge of town, a spot that has seen more than 12,000 years of ancient people's tread its ground. During the summer months, scientists painstakingly excavate the area, pulling out remnants of past civilizations, including evidence of mammoth bison and other creatures. Tours are available of the site, which lies several miles northwest of downtown, at the bottom of Yellow House Canyon Park.
